"You're Just Bitter"

Image
From this great site: The not-so-bitter truth “You’re just bitter.” This is a phrase commonly used to silence women . Another variation says, “You are so unforgiving.” The bitterness accusation is used to bully a woman and tell her how she “should” feel instead of asking her how she does feel. Someone who uses this label expects her to pretend there has been no harm, no foul. She is expected to pretend the one who hurt her is a great person, even if she knows he is a terrible person. If she does not pretend, it is because she is “bitter and unforgiving.” Abusers nearly always sling this accusation at their victims. She may have accepted him back with open arms after a dozen violent episodes, but the first time she hesitates to “forgive and forget,” he will tell her she is a bitter and unforgiving person. If only it stopped there. The world does not want to hear the voice of the abused, either. Let her speak of abuse in the divorce hearing, and the judge may roll h...

When Dad Hurts Mom

I have promised myself to get as many abuse awareness related articles out there as I can. I am currently dealing with a tough situation at home regarding my children's father in addition to some health issues of my own. This article speaks to that. Your prayers about it are welcomed. I hope to be blogging more soon. Thanks! When father hurts mother Hurting the mother of his children, either physically or by constantly shouting or swearing at her, regularly putting her down or trying to control where she goes and who she sees, is something very few men do. If you find yourself behaving in any of these ways, you should get help. This article is a good place to start. Your violence: what it means First, physical or verbal abuse damages your children’s mother: she can be physically injured and emotionally scarred. You know that, because you see it. This is what you are doing to the mother of the children you love. What you may not realise is that your children, too, are being badl...

Could the DNC Be Another Kent State?

Image
by Samantha A. Torrence The Democratic National Convention has come under threats from liberal protestors, and in response the government has been utilized to keep intelligence on perceived threats. May 4, 1970 was a day of mourning for Kent, Ohio at Kent State University. Four students had been shot dead during an anti-war protest. The events of that day and the week leading up to it have been lost in the spin against the establishment. However if Americans are to truly learn from the mistakes of that event, they will have to be faced with some uncomfortable truths, and how easily the events can be performed again. As Nixon announced a new front on the Vietnam war, Cambodia, protests sparked across the country. Students across America were against the actions despite the fact that Cambodia was harboring and giving aid to the Vietcong. The first protest at Kent over the rekindling of the Vietnam war was held on May 1st 1970. After an emotional protest where the Constitution was buried ...

Who'd a thunk it? Rev. Al getting mad at Obama for "grandstanding in front of white people." Guess this is a case of 'it takes one to know one.' SHARPTON RAPS OBAMA By CHUCK BENNETT and KAVITA MOKHA Barack Obama made a call for nonviolence in the aftermath of the Sean Bell verdict - infuriating the Rev. Al Sharpton, who accused the presidential candidate of trying to "grandstand in front of white people," sources told The Post. During what a source described as a "heated" phone call yesterday, Sharpton told Obama he was disappointed with the Illinois senator's words on Friday, when Obama said "resorting to violence to express displeasure" was "completely unacceptable and counterproductive." "[Obama] issues this statement and not a single rock had been thrown," said a source. "How does the candidate of change ask people to accept a verdict that is unjust?" The source said Sharpton had hoped Obama would...

BORN ON THE LOWEST RUNG I've been called a feminist since high school. I never ever considered myself one. I have never raised my fist or burned a bra. I find those things trite, actually. I don't dislike the term. I just considered equality common sense. As I got older I found it wasn't so common at all. I still get very annoyed at those who treat women as "less than." Or objects and a collection of parts. In my volunteer advocacy I have a few ex-escorts as clients now. I have learned a lot from them about the sickness of the sex trade and the serious mental and class problems of the people who hire them. Being reduced to ones parts is one of the more demeaning experiences. I know what its like to be used like that. It's awful. I hate myself and feel sick when I even think about it. That I even was so silly to allow some guy to coerce me by playing with my emotions. Not just when I was younger but even more recently... the attitude of "boys...

NOW WATCH MY RIGHT HAND CAREFULLY... Many right wingers and GOP Hardliners have their tighty whiteys in quite a twist over the MoveOn ad in the New York Times. Frankly, I didn't care for the ad because I don't care for things that sow hate & devisiveness. But it wasn't that bad. On the other hand I give them credit for cajhones . Anyway, I cancelled my subscription to the NYTimes years ago. But aren't there more vitally important things for us to focus on? Really now - like IRAQ? or Petraus' report? or getting some strong leadership in Israel? or getting rid of the Islamofascists leaving their dhimmitude all over our country? Noooo... the Right Wing wants us to look over at something else. They have no intention of taking responsibility for their screw ups or inability to change or listen to anyone but the drum beat of the Neocon. And the MSM? Gee... what's Britney or LiLo up to now? Only good thing I saw in the news all weekend is that O.J. is in ...
