John Edwards - You're Whale Guano!

When I watched John Edward announce his Presidential Candidacy at a family member's home - I said "something's not right about him."  I just felt OFF about Edward. Now I know why...

Narcissism and the Human Condition

Image
Narcissism is a normal feature of human development. All human beings are born narcissistic. Narcissism is experiencing life in such a way that the real, external world is experienced as unreal, with the self alone as real. The narcissistic person does not accept that the real world has autonomous existence and is populated with real independent human beings; rather, all is some construction of their own mind, experienced only in terms of their own thoughts and feelings, hopes and desires. And when the real world demands some response, they either fail to respond, disconnecting themselves from it, or respond solely in terms of themselves. Narcissism is universal in primitive cultures. Human social evolution is the gradual overcoming of narcissism. The universality of narcissism as an aspect of psychological development is due to the fact that all human beings are conscious. The self, which is to a person the most important thing in existence, is not a fixed entity, since it is cr...

Disdain for Reality

Image
From my friend, Anna at Narcissists Suck : The NPD illusion of superiority is a facet of a generalized disdain for reality. These individuals feel unconstrained by rules, customs, limits, and discipline. Their world is filled with self-fiction in which conflicts are dismissed, failures redeemed, and self-pride is effortlessly maintained. They easily devise plausible reasons to justify self-centered and inconsiderate behavior. Their memories of past relationships are often illusory and changing. If rationalizations and self-deception fail, individuals with NPD are vulnerable to dejection, shame, and a sense of emptiness. Then they have little recourse other than fantasy. They have an uninhibited imagination and engage in self-glorifying fantasies. What is unmanageable through fantasy is repressed and kept from awareness. As they consistently devalue others, they do not question the correctness of their own beliefs; they assume that others are wrong. The characteristic difficulties of in...

Dear Tiger Woods....

Tiger, please go join Jon Gosselin, Steve Philips and all the other cheating Narcissist Morons hiding behind “sex addiction rehab.” We all know you’re going to go back to preying on vulnerable women and then allowing your media hacks to call them skanks & bimbos as soon as you can. Boo-friggin’ hoo... get over yourself. How to Not Apologize When You’ve Seriously F-d Up ( a good read just for you Tiger, baby) excerpts : Make sure the “confession”, er, apology comes MONTHS or years after the incident. It’s just too much work to actually own up immediately afterwards. Let’s face it, you’re not after any real resolution, and you are not offering any kind of restitution – you are looking to assuage your guilty conscience and buy absolution, and, if you play your cards right, you can get attention for your act of “bravery” in coming forward. If it’s absolution you are looking for, why not join the Catholic church instead? “Powerful and sneaky people use apologies as end runs around repen...

The Malignant Narcissism of Hugo Chavez

Image
by Karen Northon In Hollywood, it all comes down to how well you can deliver a line, which is perhaps why so many in the land of make-believe adore the dictatorial drama queen Hugo Chavez. The whole world truly is a stage. The man is a compelling orator to those whose ideological cataracts prevent them from seeing through Chavez’s persuasive rhetoric to the underlying persecution complex that directs his every move. Hollywood is flooded with such visually-impaired, self-proclaimed foreign policy experts who believe Chavez just wants to hold hands with everyone and sing We Are the World. Socialist-dictator groupie Sean Penn spent some quality time with Chavez in 2007 and again in 2008, calling him “a fascinating guy.” In Penn’s defense, I will admit I find documentaries about serial killers fascinating – though I don’t think I’d care to spend time cozying up with one and waxing intellectual about the politics of their brutality. Then we have everyone’s favorite conspiracy-theory movie d...

Why Lying to You Makes Narcissists Feel Smart

Image
by (the late & very missed) Kathy Krajco People make light of things in order to minimize how bad they are. I think I know why narcissists and other pathological liars think lying is funny and means that they are smart and you are stupid. On my first trip to Europe, first trip to Rome, we hadn't been in Italy five minutes before the first time we got ripped off. When thousands of lira are less than a dollar, a fresh American can easily not notice a couple extra zeroes. I got so sick of being viewed as prey, that I was in no mood to buy anything from any Italian that day we were resting in St. Peter's Square and a guy approached us with some 35 mm slides of the Vatican to sell us. And I should have been interested in those photos, because our camera was on the blink. I didn't mean to be a jerk: I just felt it would be rude to tell him to get lost, so I let him make his pitch. (Now I know that hawkers and telemarketers hate it when you waste their time like that and that ...

FAREWELL TO A LEGENDARY ABUSER This post may seem like one of the coldest cruelest things I have ever written. And I ask God's forgiveness for it. But I am going to stick to my own truth and feel the need to write about it. While I am sorry for Ike Turner's friends & family in his passing, I am not sorry to hear he's gone. He was, in my humble opinion, a malignant narcissist. Talented, brilliant but evil, selfish and cruel. I read "I, Tina " when it first came out. I loved Tina Turner. I had a roommate my first 5 years living in NYC who was as into music as I was (and still am). He had me listen to some very early Ike Turner. It was memorizing and I can only imagine its effect on the people who heard it when it first came out. It was different. It was rock and roll in the raw. And Tina had a voice like no one else. She was raw, sexual energy on stage with a kick-a** voice. But as an abuse victim, still in the throes of a marriage where I was yet u...

BLOGGERS AGAINST ABUSE Today I join 1,000s of bloggers around the world in BlogCatalog's Blogging for a Great Cause Challenge. Here's my post for this cause: FEELINGS I address the victims of narcissistic abusers here. But this can warn their friends about how hurtful the stock responses to their pain are. If you are the friend of an abused person, don't make it worse. If you can't say what comes naturally and honestly, it would be better to say nothing at all than to say what sounds right because it's politically correct. "He who angers you controls you." Baloney. That popular adage does not pass a basic nonsense check. Look, it says that if we want to be good boys and girls we must numb ourselves so that nobody can make us feel anything. Look again, it is exactly anti-logical, blaming the victim. It pathologizes you, the victim of the narcissist, instead of the narcissist. Stuff like this is my pet peeve. Where on earth does it come from? Once you start ...
