Into The Brain of a Liar

Image
by Robert Krulwich and Jad Abumrad LISTEN TO THE INTERVIEW - CLICK HERE We all lie — once a day or so, according to most studies. But usually we tell little lies, like "your new haircut looks great!" And most of us can control when we lie or what we lie about. But some people lie repeatedly and compulsively, about things both big and small. In 2005, a study published in The British Journal of Psychiatry provided the first evidence of structural differences in the brains of people with a history of persistent lying. The study was led by Yaling Yang, a doctoral student in psychology at the University of Southern California, and Adrian Raine, an expert on antisocial disorders who is now at University of Pennsylvania. They expected to see some kind of deficit in the brains of these liars, Yang says. But surprisingly, the liars in their study actually had a surplus — specifically, they had more connections in the part of their brains responsible for complex thinking. Finding Liars...

Raped or Abused? Go to Jail!

This is so beyond explanation other than the depraved indifference of Islamic society. And we want to be politically correct with them? Spare me. What sickens me even more -- is that I have heard American men who abuse make SIMILAR EXCUSES FOR THEIR ABUSE. However, at least a raped woman here doesn't end up in jail. Right? No -- if her abuser's got money, friends in high places or pull with the courts, she's not believed either. Abused Afghan women end up in jail A woman fleeing domestic violence or rape often ends up guilty Trafficked across the border from Pakistan with her 3-year-old son, Rukhma was handed to an Afghan who raped and abused her, then beat the toddler to death as she watched helplessly. He was jailed for 20 years for murder, but Rukhma ended up in prison too. Rukhma, who doesn't know her age but looks younger than 20, had put up with her mistreatment for three months last summer before seeking protection and justice from authorities. Instead she wa...

Temptation Does NOT Equal An Excuse

Image
by Kathy Krajco It seems to me that a malignant narcissist can't help his or her temptations, predatory urges. Maybe they are the fruit of a lifetime of twisted thinking and therefore the narcissist's own fault ultimately. Maybe not. For example, if you are addicted to heroin, your desire for it today is the end of a path you chose to take and never repented from. We should understand how strong your temptation is, and we have no right getting up on a moral high horse with respect to you, because we don't have to resist such a strong temptation. But that's where understanding ends. You COULD quit. Many people do! Look how many people quit smoking for the minor reason that it became politically incorrect. Millions quit drinking annually. Multitudes give up a drug habit. Often without treatment or any 12-step program. So your addiction is your fault. Moreover, if for the money to get your next hit of heroin you murder somebody for the cash in their wallet, your temp...

IT'S TIME FOR MATCH GAME! One of my childrens' favorite games is Uno. They have beat me numerous times on numerous ocassions. If you don't know this game it involves matching cards with the same color or same number together in a discard pile until you are down to one card or "UNO!" With this 'matching system' in mind I present two articles. So much is at stake in Israel and the U.S. and with Islamofascism on the march... we need strong leaders and we don't have them!! Israel is being used & re-abused by those who care more about their personal image than Israel. Hasn't she been through enough? So read and tell me... does this: Abusive people typically think they are unique, really so different from other people that they don't have to follow the same rules everyone else does. But r ather than being unique, abusers have a lot in common with one another, including their patterns of thinking and behaving . The following are some of their...

OOPS! THERE IT IS!! One of the hardest, nearly impossible thing for these failed politicans to do? Admit failure. Oh they will say things to the effect: the information I got was faulty, I made an error in judgement and so on. We have all heard it before. But one thing I tell the women I counsel is that to truly take ownership for their mistakes and failures - people must never ever include the word (actual or implied) "BUT. " BUT is an obvious sign that they are about to project and blame-shift their failures, mistakes, errors or abuse onto someone or something else. Yes, there are reasons that these mistakes are made - most of them being human error. However, a true adult and true teshuva involves NO BUTS. Olmert is backed into a corner... let's just hope he makes the right decision this time. If past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior? He needs to step down and make room for someone more capable than he has shown himself to be. CALLS FOR OLMERT TO...
