Abstinence Only Programs... They're Baaaack

Image
Seems Obama embraced it as part of his continued efforts to subjagate women. I think we need to impose a FINE on every politician that lands in a sex scandal. The deficit would be paid off in no time! (and for gosh sake, get rid of Nancy Pelosi!!) Please read this commentary from the inscrutable Uppity Woman , who - as always - says it better than I ever could! What day is the protest against the reinstated Abstinence Only program? Politics Daily noticed something interesting. The purpose of the program was to promote virginity among the ten remaining virgins in the USA, and discourage sex outside of marriage. It was a very Far Right Wing Whacko Chrstian-y thing, the kind of thing that sends the Far Left Wing Whackos into seizures of anger, complete with eyes rolling backwards into their sockets and uncontrollable body twitching. The 2010 Health Care Reform bill has a little noticed provision in it that provides $250 million for the reinstatement of the very same program. The Na...

"Barry Knows Best" Show - Irksome

Image
With difficult state elections and a crucial military decision looming, President Barack Obama sat down with his wife Michelle last month to give an in-depth magazine interview about a subject that has hitherto not ranked highly on the White House political agenda — the state of the first couple’s marriage. The president used the occasion to complain that when he recently hopped aboard Air Force One to fly his wife to New York for dinner and a Broadway show, “people made it into a political issue”. Obama went on to insist that his marriage was “separate and apart from a lot of the silliness of Washington”. He then proceeded to discuss his romantic ups and downs in startling detail with a reporter from The New York Times Magazine. Publication of that unusually candid interview highlighted an intriguing contradiction that has begun to haunt the Obama White House. The president’s family has become one of his most valuable political assets. Yet the attempts by the Obamas to shield their pr...

Independent Voters Don't Approve of POTUS

Image
by Paul Steinhauser A majority of independent voters disapprove of how Barack Obama's handling his job as president, according to a new national poll. Fifty-three percent of independents questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Tuesday say they disapprove of how Obama's handling his duties in the White House, with 43 percent in approval. That result marks the first time in a CNN poll that a majority of independents give the president's performance a thumbs-down. Obama's overall approval rating of 53 percent is down 3 points from a month ago, and down 8 points from June. Forty-five percent of those questioned disapprove, up 5 points from a month ago and up 8 points from June. According to the poll, nine in 10 Democrats approve of the job Obama's doing, up three points from a month ago, with 15 percent of Republicans approving, down 8 points. "Obama won a majority of the vote among independents last year, and that helped put him in the Whi...

OOPS! There It IS!!!

Image
From my friends at PUMA UNLEASHED: Lets Face Facts- Electing Obama was the biggest mistake this country has made second only to Bush’s Iraq War The newly elected president of the United States is so far out of his depth, he doesn’t (even) stand a chance to “FAKE IT UNTIL HE MAKES IT!” At this time in US history, there are no models available for use as comparisons to previously depressed economic times. NONE! As much as pundits feel compelled to make comparisons to FDR-JFK, there are none. We are sailing at the will, in uncharted seas and at the whim of Mother Nature herself, my friends. Obama has never faced grappling with a problem as vast or unquantifiable as this economy even though he has surrounded himself with esteemed advisers like Warren Buffet, Bill Gates , George Soros and others as heavy weights in the Finance sector, even they are overwhelmed plodding slowly, ( Buffett lost a huge bundle in the stock mkt after he said…everything’s fine ) because this depressed economy h...

Obama's Price of Failure

Image
When I was getting married I remembered telling one of my friends that I could just about tell which marriages had an " Under-5 Shelf Life ", as I called it. That means, the brides and their helicoptering mothers who were more concerned about the perfect dress, the lavish reception, etc. Instead of worrying what would make a good marriage - things like communication, compromise, understanding and committment. (BTW, my wedding and reception was very small, tasteful and I nabbed a designer gown for under $500 that needed no alterations! My Nana, of blessed memory, was a gown designer and I swear she was helping me from the Other Side!) Granted, my marriage ended but not without many years of effort on my part. My ex still asks me to come back to this day but refuses to do anything about the problems which ripped us apart. He refuses to take any responsibility or even recognize his behavior towards me was wrong. He refuses to see or admit that slowly, over time - not only...

Life Sentence for Rapist; Failed System for Victims

Image
Gordon Brown said that lessons must be learned from the case of a man who repeatedly raped his two daughters over more than two decades, fathering nine children by them. The Prime Minister said that a full case review was now under way after the 56-year-old businessman on Tuesday received 25 life sentences for rape at Sheffield Crown Court. "The whole country will be outraged by those unspeakable events that have been reported as happening in Sheffield and in other parts of the country and will be utterly appalled by the news of the systemic abuse of two sisters by their father over such a long period," he told MPs at Prime Minister's Questions. "People will want to know how such abuse could go on for so long without the authorities and the wider public services discovering it and taking action. "If there is a change to be made in the system and the system has failed we will change the system." SOURCE

Democratic Party = An Utter Failure

Image
I left the Democratic Party a while ago, in complete disgust. I am now independent of any party because I want to be able to vote the way I believe is best. The Democratic Party has, in my mind, failed EVERY ONE OF ITS TENETS. The article below, beautifully validates my opinions: A life-long Democrat, who has never voted Republican, the ideals espoused in the Preamble to the Democratic Party have been the coalescing force behind my dedication and loyalty. Without fail, I, along with millions of others, have rededicated ourselves to the principles that have not only “sustained” our Party but also maintain and enhance our Democracy. Unity to a common purpose does not mean “falling in line” to support a “selected” candidate. Rather, unity to uphold our Democracy and the principles of our Party are paramount. The resistance by loyal, life-long Democrats to automatically support the presumptive nominee is often characterized as an act of disloyalty; that we “sore losers”. No, on the contra...

An Unmitigated Disaster

Image
Is Bush the worst U.S. president ever? Historians might argue over ranking, but there's no doubt he has been an unmitigated disaster Thomas Walkom, Columnist Historians will argue over whether George W. Bush is the worst president the United States has ever endured. But that is not the point. Five years after Bush's ill-starred invasion of Iraq, three years after Hurricane Katrina and seven months into the unravelling of the U.S. financial system, the point is that the 43rd president of the United States - regardless of his ranking in the pantheon - is a unique and unmitigated disaster. Whether Bush is more of a warmonger than James Polk, who in 1846 manufactured a crisis with Mexico in order to seize what is now California, more tolerant of cronyism than poker-playing Warren Harding (1921 to 1923), or more unlucky than William Harrison (he died after catching cold at his 1841 inauguration) is interesting but irrelevant. What we do know is that this president, this "decid...

AND TAKE THOSE FLYING MONKEYS WITH YOU I read Dr. Frank's book BUSH ON THE COUCH a couple years ago with great interest. Since my working-actor days I have been fascinated by human behavior. Now that I advocate for abuse victims like myself - behaviors and personality disorders have become my area of personal study. ( Don't confuse Mental Disorders with Personality Disorders. They aren't the same.) After reading my blog for the last 4 years you'd think I see narcissists around every corner. No. But I do see a lot of them. Especially in public offices that seem to be confounding or failing their constituency. Healthy narcissism would be necessary in a public service. But remember, there's a canyon of difference between the healthy narcissism we all need to function in society and Destructive Narcissistic Pattern (DNP) which involves: the lack of empathy for others remorseless exploitation of others for your own gratification inflated sense of self-worth fe...

THE BROKEN LEVEE-MAKER Seen the movie THE RAINMAKER? Unfortunately that movie was more truth than fiction. How do I know? I have been through something similar with the insurance industry. When I became disabled in 1995 the first thing that happened was my employer at the time did everything to try to fire me and get rid of me. Everything. But I guess they didn't know who they were dealing with. Without a lawyer but the help of my physician, they were unable to fire me. In fact, I believe the head of Personnel got quite an upbraiding for what he and my department supervisor attempted to do. This isn't unique. Many big businesses will do whatever they can to get a disabled person off their rolls before the insurance hit. Oh and my disability insurer? Was one of their clients. The disability insurer usually picks a few people to try to discredit. First they tried to say I was mentally ill, which has a 2-year limit. ( please see my prior posts on the Wellstone Bill for...

IT'S TIME TO STOP ACCEPTING BUSH'S FAILURES It's hard to know what to think these days about U.S. security, what with attempted car bombings at Britain's airports, terrorist threat assessments rising in the United States, nonspecific warnings of a possible terrorist attack this summer and President Bush finally facing a serious policy showdown on Iraq. Americans should be miffed when U.S. counterterrorism officials say al-Qaida is revived and reinvigorated and Iraq has made little to no progress toward its own independence and security - and when Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff says he has "a gut feeling" that the U.S. will be attacked this summer. Nothing specific, nothing factual, nothing credible, mind you, Chertoff says. Just his uneasy gut. Attentive Americans have figured out since Sept. 11, 2001, and the Homeland Security Advisory System of colors was introduced that it always seemed the threat level was raised whenever some otherwise unfav...
A COMMENT ABOUT BETRAYAL by Keith Olbermann This is, in fact, a comment about… betrayal. Few men or women elected in our history—whether executive or legislative, state or national—have been sent into office with a mandate more obvious, nor instructions more clear: Get us out of Iraq. Yet after six months of preparation and execution—half a year gathering the strands of public support; translating into action, the collective will of the nearly 70 percent of Americans who reject this War of Lies, the Democrats have managed only this: * The Democratic leadership has surrendered to a president—if not the worst president, then easily the most selfish, in our history—who happily blackmails his own people, and uses his own military personnel as hostages to his asinine demand, that the Democrats “give the troops their money”; * The Democratic leadership has agreed to finance the deaths of Americans in a war that has only reduced the security of Americans; * The Democratic leadersh...
