How To Spot A Narcissist

Image
I was born to and raised by one. I have had innumerable friends who were ones. I voted for a few. I had a doctor who was one for many years. I have dated, with one exception, nothing but them. I married & broke free from one. I have worked for a number of them. Now that I know what they are - I can almost smell one. Almost. Truth of the matter is, without prolonged exposure to one - you can't tell. Once they know you "KNOW" them - they become enraged at you and go on the attack. So by the time you can tell? Irreparable emotional, psychological & psychic damage is done. by Dr. Ludger Hofmann-Engl It is easier than we might think to spot a narcissist, and yet at the same time much more difficult. Why is this? Under threat, a narcissist will act crazy - simply insane. So at such a moment in time, it is easy to spot him or her. When a narcissist feels very secure, the narcissist plays games. These games are spotted by the frequency these games are suddenl...

How Blogs & Emails Make Anger Worse

Image
by Steven Stosn y The proliferation of blogs and emails may be partially responsible for the increase in anger of recent years. We can learn a lot about the emotions that motivate many blogs and emails, as well as reactions to them, from, believe it or not, a few observations of animals. Anger, for instance, is the fight part of the primitive fight/flight/freeze response common to all mammals. It functions primarily to protect self and juvenile offspring from harm. Activation of the fight/flight/freeze response requires a dual perception of threat and vulnerability. Animals respond to lesser threats with greater anger, fear, or submission (freeze) when they are wounded, starving, sick, or recently traumatized. The activation of fight over flight/freeze is determined by the annihilation potential of the threat. A raccoon will ferociously fight a rat to defend her newborn pups but not a cougar. Thus more anger is observed in powerful animals, which tend to be predatory. Powerful animals...

ARGUMENT OR HAIR SPLITTING? Jesuitical vs. Talmudic By Cullen Murphy An exchange occurred not long ago in California's Sacramento Superior and Municipal Courts. As a lawyer attempted to excuse his client's behavior with a convoluted explanation, Judge James Ford interrupted acidly with the comment, "That's just ... that's just too Jesuitical for words." The colloquy continued as follows: Lawyer: "Pardon me?" Judge: "It's too Jesuitical. You probably didn't go to a Jesuit school." Lawyer: "Certainly didn't. I am of the Jewish faith." Judge: "Then it's too Talmudic for words." One can almost hear the appreciative chuckles from the spectators' gallery at this bit of repartee--the overreactive, tension-dispelling response that very mild witticisms tend to produce in solemn venues. And yet someone should have risen to say, "Objection!" It is common to regard "Jesuitical"...

STEINBERG: Still An Animal After All These Years I picked up my paper this morning with a mix of "this figures" and "how sick can one man be"? running through my head. You'd think now that I have been a Domestic Violence Advocate for almost 3 full years now I'd be used to these sort of stories. Believe me, this remorseless, selfish bullpocky from abusers never changes. Never. And I hope I never cease being shocked by the audacity of some of these abusers. Here's the list of the most common excuses I hear (at least 25-35 times every week) from abusive men about their victims: - she's just a 'scorned woman' (this is the MOST common) - she's jealous of my new girlfriend - she needs to get over it and move on - she's exaggerating - she's crazy - she's the abuser not me ( I'd say this is at least #3 if not #2) - she's making it all up - she needs to get her ego in check - she pushed me to it - it's not as bad she...
