Terrorism = Tantrums

Image
Hat tip GIYUS Ever observed a child having a tantrum? I have. One of my children is learning disabled and has tantrums that resemble cyclones. Now, how many of you have seen adults have them? I have - I've seen bosses, people on line at a store and people on mass transit have them. They don't want to "share" or admit to anything. They want it their way. Now. Of course, we've seen a lot of it online . People who just aren't getting their way. Bloggers who don't like reality or don't deal well with disagreement. And most of all trolls who decide that rather than dealing with things in an adult fashion - like civil debate - they will malign, smear, lie and cheat to gain sympathy and to gain the upper hand. They may even write blog posts about you or covert posts about you to tear you down. Its their site, and they figure - they will wield it like a bat if need be. Terrorism is a form of a tantrum. Albeit a deadly one. They don't get what t...

Help Get Rid of 'Senator Slasher'

Image
From THE NEW AGENDA: by Sheryl Robinson, Editrix Indicted last week on six counts of felony assault, and prohibited from having any contact with his alleged victim until December 2009, NY State Senator Hiram Monserrate has inexplicably not been forced to relinquish his senate seat as he goes to trial. He’s a state legislator charged with a serious felony, and until that issue is resolved, he cannot be trusted to serve the public good. Every time this story gets some traction in the press, Monseratte’s PR firm contacts the publication and attempts to intimidate them, as they did with The New Agenda and NY NOW. Don’t allow this story to sink below the surface while an accused violent felon remains comfortably ensconced in his office, collecting his substantial salary as a senator. This is a travesty, and the message it sends is that violence against women is no big deal. WHAT YOU CAN DO: If you live in New York State, call or write your legislators at one of the links below and ask the...

Domestic Violence Bloggers Risk Their Lives Reporting on Abuse

Image
Myself, I have been defamed, cyberstalked, harassed, called "fat, desperate, pathetic, scorned, a loser, a nutjob" and names I can't repeat here. Sometimes by people who 'supposedly' know me and attempt to hurt me. Sometimes by people I don't know and have never met, and hope I never will. But I will continue to speak out for myself and for others. Because I have children I love and friends I care about. From RANDI JAMES' TERRIFIC BLOG: In creating domestic violence/ sexual assault blogs, we women bloggers are reclaiming some of the power we lost when we were assaulted and/or are reclaiming our power as an oppressed group. However, this journey out of silence does not come without risks. In exposing the corruption of the family court system and the criminal "justice" system, we are risking our lives so that others may benefit from our courage. I have been noting a few of the deaths that have occurred [recently]. Any one of those deaths could h...

The Cost of Criticizing Jihadists

Image
By Nat Hentoff Geert Wilders - a film producer and also a member of parliament in the Netherlands - is facing a prison term there for "insulting" Muslims. His short film "Fitna" in 2008 juxtaposed verses from the Koran with scenes of violence committed by jihadist terrorists. The Dutch appellate court refused a free-speech defense because the insults were so egregious. If convicted, Wilders faces a maximum sentence of two years in prison. Said the defendant: "I lost my freedom already four and a half years ago in October 2004, when my 24-hour police protection started because of threats by Muslims in Holland and abroad to kill me." I have heard from Muslims in this country that jihadists around the world have more than insulted traditional Muslim law by their fierce punishments of both non-Muslims and Muslims who have acted in speech or writing against jihadists' reinterpretations of the Quran. Some of these protesters, exercising freedom of conscience...

Which Came First?

From The Confluence: Pop quiz: Robert is a 20 year-old black man who was raised in the ghettos of Chicago’s South Side by a single mother. He has committed a violent crime. The reason he committed the crime is: A. He is black B. He is a young male C. He comes from a single-parent home D. His economic situation (poverty) E. Insufficient data I would hope that everyone picked “E” as the correct answer, because we simply don’t have enough information to answer the question. Although “A” is obviously wrong, not that many years ago it was believed that blacks were predisposed to commit violent crimes. Answers “B,” “C,” and “D” are all considered by social scientists to be factors that contribute to violent crime. Let’s try another: Ali is a 20 year-old Iraqi man who was raised in the Anbar Province by a single mother. He has detonated a car bomb. The reason he detonated the bomb is: A. He is a Muslim B. He is a Muslim C. He is a Muslim D. He is a Muslim E. He is a Muslim Whe...

International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

Image
Today is UN International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The status of women around the world still leaves much to be desired. Women and children account for over 80% of the casualties of war, as well as 80% of the 40 million people in world who are displaced from their homes as a result of violent conflict. Sexual violence as a tool of war has left hundreds of thousands of women raped, wounded, and infected with HIV/AIDS. Violence against women not only impacts the life of the woman, but can destroy her family and community. But there is hope. In honor of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women we would like to feature extraordinary Survivor Corps women who have risen above the trauma of violence and given back to others. Patricia is the Coordinator of the Burundian Women’s Lawyers Association, a Survivor Corps partner. Every day she meets with women who need her help, from litigation to putting food on the table. “In 1994, at the beginn...

Rape is Like Being Force-Fed Chocolate Cake

Image
If you still think society doesn't treat women like property and men don't coerce and seduce women and then make up excuses for it. If you still think sex is sex is sex no matter what -- including marital rape being a myth... If you still think blaming a victim for what you do to them (the Palestinians and Israel springs to mind...) as well as this post of mine from yesterday .. Then I have a wake up call for you: by Kira Hesser Not only can blogging wage war on your health, but public figures are getting in trouble for their online opinions. The BNP’s Nick Eriksen learnt this the hard way last week, after he was sacked as the party's London Assembly candidate for publishing jaw-droppingly obtuse views on rape on his blog. The post has since been removed, but luckily journalists were quick to spot the following: "Rape is simply sex (I am talking about 'husband-rape' here)... Women enjoy sex, so rape cannot be such a terrible physical ordeal…To suggest that...

SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVILS Why do we continue to have pity on these animals? I don't see Jews rioting in the streets over anti-semitism. Maybe we should! Having been in the U.K. not so long ago, I wonder why the British haven't taken to the street over being terrorized by this crew? All they are doing is having VIOLENT TANTRUMS to scare us all into capitulating. And its working! UGH! This week's riots are reminiscent of the 2005 youth violence outside Paris and other cities against unemployment, living conditions, and what the rioters call discrimination against young Muslims and those of North African descent. SOURCE Cry me a river. Their way of dealing with their pain is to hurt others? That speaks VOLUMES! ~~~~ Arab and black “children of immigrants” are rioting in France, and the AP Newswire seems to be sympathizing with the rioters, noting , “Youths, many of them Arab and black children of immigrants, again appeared to be lashing out at police and other targets ...

MARTYR MOUSE, MARTYR MOUSE, FOREVER MAY WE HAVE JIHAD, JIHAD, JIHAD! In a word - UGH! Hamas' Mickey Mouse lookalike 'martyred' Children's program has character killed by 'Israeli' from: WorldNetDaily.com Palestinian children who have been entertained and indoctrinated on television by a Mickey Mouse-knockoff who teaches them to fight for Israel's destruction and Islam's domination over the entire world will have to seek a new leader: the character has been martyred. Al-Aqsa TV, run by the Palestinian Territories ruling party Hamas, has featured a squeaky-voiced Mickey Mouse look-alike named Farfur in the weekly children's program "Tomorrow's Pioneers." However, the show's final episode had the character being beaten to death. "Farfur was martyred while defending his land," said a teen hostess of the program. The mouse character had called the Israeli a "terrorist" and the hostess said he died at the hands of the...

Instability, Chaos, Violence Born of Unstable, Irresponsible, and Dangerous Leaders In light of current events I felt these to articles went together... like peas in an 'article' pod. And one of the most profound quotes I have read recently is in the second article. It refers to physical wounds but I know for a fact it applies to mental & emotional wounds as well: Your body forms a cocoon, so it will always be part of you, but it won't hurt. Yes, whatever has happened to us and to them - will always be a part of all of us. by Christopher Brauchli Blessings are upon the head of the just; but violence Covereth the mouth of the wicked. -The Proverbs In his April 21 radio address to the nation (inspired by the violence at Virginia Tech earlier in the week) George Bush announced that he has directed federal officials to conduct a national inquiry into how to prevent violence by dangerously unstable people. It is a worthy endeavor. The news from Darfur (as well as...
