This is no surprise to me. Any group that constantly bloviates on about ethics, correctness (some of them in the religious sense by quoting scripture to you...) and how awful anyone who isn't them... always seems to do so to hide the 800-pound gorilla standing right behind them. Hi there, Mr. Gorilla! I've seen you for a while now. And Mr. Gorilla - zip it up. Americans may paint themselves in increasingly bright shades of red and blue, but new research finds one thing that varies little across the nation: the liking for online pornography. A new nationwide study of anonymised credit-card receipts from a major online adult entertainment provider finds little variation in consumption between states. "When it comes to adult entertainment, it seems people are more the same than different," says Benjamin Edelman at Harvard Business School. However, there are some trends to be seen in the data. Those states that do consume the most porn tend to be more conser...

"Just Arrogance and Ignorance..."

Think our government and its overseers aren't becoming more narcissistic and self-absorbed? Fiddling with 'Rome' burns? (and if you or I did this - we'd be S.O.L.!) Then read this; your tax dollars HARD AT WORK: SEC porn peekers at work confess by Jim McElhatton U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission workers who made a habit of looking at pornography on their government computers, even as the economy was tanking, offered varying explanations when caught. "I think it was just arrogance and ignorance on my part," one worker said. "You know, I mean … I didn't intend to hurt anybody. I didn't intend to hurt the SEC's image or anything like that." The Washington Times reported in February on the existence of about two dozen such cases, which were detailed in reports to Congress as well as in more than 150 pages of case summaries obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request. Additional pornography cases surfaced last week in a memo f...

The Porn Myth

BY NAOMI WOLF In the end, porn doesn't whet men's appetites—it turns them off the real thing. At a benefit the other night, I saw Andrea Dworkin, the anti-porn activist most famous in the eighties for her conviction that opening the floodgates of pornography would lead men to see real women in sexually debased ways. If we did not limit pornography, she argued — before Internet technology made that prospect a technical impossibility — most men would come to objectify women as they objectified porn stars, and treat them accordingly. In a kind of domino theory, she predicted, rape and other kinds of sexual mayhem would surely follow. The feminist warrior looked gentle and almost frail. The world she had, Cassandra-like, warned us about so passionately was truly here: Porn is, as David Amsden says, the “wallpaper” of our lives now. So was she right or wrong? She was right about the warning, wrong about the outcome. As she foretold, pornography did breach the dike that separated a m...

Marry A Porn Star? Why Bother!

First I didn't go looking for this article, it was sent by a friend. But I feel compelled to blog about though I know not everyone will agree with me. I am no prude and I try not to engage in sanctimonius judgment of others. But I am somewhat appalled at the way the media tries to sanitize & excuse what these women do for a living; partly because the partners find it acceptable. I always feel sad that pretty women have to make their livings in this way. I am well aware men watch this stuff -- you can tell because they find "real" women ugly or 'not good enough.' It's bad enough we live in a sexualized society -- and it's bad enough when people who cheat either blame the other party they cheated with, lie about it or say they were 'driven to it' by a 'bad marriage' or some other nonsense -- but writing about this as if its O.K.? Every guy wants a porn star in the bedroom. I am fine with that... but there are limits to what I find acc...

As the Internet has become more and more a part of our lives, people of all ages have become more vulnerable to Internet crime, such as cyberbullying, online predators, online affairs, emotional or psychological exploitation, scams and pornography. In recognition of this growing concern, the United States Senate declared June -- National Internet Safety Month. Please spend a few moments surfing for information on internet safety -- for yourself & your children. And remember - nothing you post on the internet is ever really gone. WRAP week sheds light on porn blight The 20th annual White Ribbons Against Pornography (WRAP) Week begins Sunday to raise awareness of the harmful affects of pornography. Concerned Women for America (CWA) joins the national campaign to provide opportunities to fight pornography and sexual addictions and call for a respect for sexual virtue. Wendy Wright, president of CWA, notes that "75 percent of convicted rapists admit they were acting out what they had seen in pornography, and 80 percent of child molesters admit their spiral down began with pornography." WRAP Week began in 1987 as a result of one woman, Norma Norris , who sought to sensitize the public to the magnitude of the pornography problem in everyday life. For one week, people are asked to wear or display a white ribbon in solidarity against pornography. The Supreme Court ruled in 1973 that the First Amendment does not protect "obscene material" (hardcore pornography). People can complain to busine...
