The Web site has become one of the most effective (and free) tools for human traffickers to ply their hideous trade. Incidents like the ones involving "Craigslist killer" Philip Markoff and the New York radio reporter allegedly killed by a teenager who responded to a Craigslist ad are apparently just the tip of the iceberg. Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan has referred to the Craigslist section then known as "erotic services" as an "Internet brothel." HELP SHUT DOWN THE TALIBAN'S WEBSITE - AGAIN! from Hyscience The word from Rusty is that the official website for the Taliban has publicly challenged The Jawa Report to try to take them back offline again: Taliban.gif In an official announcement from the group on a well known Islamist bulletin board, the group gloats that, "For a long time now the official site of the Islamic Emirates of Afghanistan - Taliban has been shut down-- due to the exposure and prosecution it was closed by the enemies of Islam," but that party officials were able to get a new site up and running. The "enemies of Islam" that were able to get their website shut down? The Jawa Report. :-) The new website has a few more sophisticated safeguards, some of which we've already thwarted, but getting this new website shut down should not be that hard to do--with your help. NOT A GOOD DAY FOR HUMANITY This has not been a great day. It started out with minor annoyance - my child's bus didn't show up and it was getting on to the time where class would start. So I drove her and a little boy from the same bus stop (who goes to kindergarten at the same school) in. The roads near me were intermittently flooded but I made it. Listening to the news on the way home I was glad that, so far, the flooding hadn't effected myself or my neighbors personally. Typically selfish New Yorker. I opened my door to a TOTALLY DARK HOME. Yes, NO ELECTRICITY. I checked my junction boxes... nothing. So I took my flashlight and called Con Ed - who seemed to be clueless other than "we are working on it." I decided not to vent at a poor Customer Service rep. I told them that they should alert the radio media to area outages at least and was as polite as I could muster.
