It always amuses me is when a pathological person gets into court and tries to "sell" their twisted version of reality to a judge and ultimately gets called on it. Oh, the sicko NEVER admit they were wrong but it's heartening to see that some judges do not buy their lies. It's also validating because so many pathologicals make their victims crazy and push them over the edge by insisting it "never happened" or they "never said/ did that" or "it's them not me." I apologize. I usually have an overload of empathy and compassion. But this sympathy ploy reminds me of so many abusers I help people get away from... and this one works for the Press so he abuses that outlet as well. Surprise... NOT. BLAME SHIFTING A common bully tactic. It goes right along with changing the subject and making accusations. It's not always your fault though. It could be his boss, the clerk at the grocery store, the bank teller, the guy who cut him off on the freeway, a lack of sleep, a worrying situation … anyone or anything at all as long as it's not him. Blame shifting is not always obvious because it is not always directly linked to the situation at hand. Either way he wins. If nobody in the situation is to blame, then there is no way to resolve the problem. If you are to blame, then you must fix it. BLAMING THE VICTIM IS SHAMEFUL I can't stand injustice. I never could. I got myself in trouble repeatedly at school for telling the truth and not knowing when to keep my mouth shut. My father, of blessed memory, had this same problem. He ended up as a Lieutenant with the Sheriff's Department where he lived. Me? I just vent about it on this blog... (and in therapy). When I worked as a paralegal there were times I had to go to court to file papers or get the clerk for a particular judge to sign off on them.
