Excerpt: Left-wing feminists have a hard time dealing with strong, successful conservative women in politics such as Margaret Thatcher. Sarah Palin seems to have truly unhinged more than a few, eliciting a stream of vicious, often misogynist invective.... I disagree with Sarah Palin on a number of issues, including abortion rights. But when the feminist establishment treats not only pro-life feminism but small-government, individualist feminism as heresy, it writes off multitudes of women. I wouldn't have titled this piece "Why feminists hate Sarah Palin." Young never concedes that the feminism that liberals say is the only feminism is, in fact, the only feminism. Nor would I. How long before some pathetic ultra right-winger picks this up as proof that they are "better than" others? And that being conservative makes them "better" people? While I don't consider myself a full-blown liberal, I will take reality & truth over "justification" any day. I don't find it o.k. to justify the death of our soldiers in an illegal war any more than visiting prostitutes paid for by lobbyists while preaching family values to be justifiable. HATERS & BAITERS I will never understand people who label others they don't agree with as "haters." Case in point, DEMOCRAT HATERS. Now I am not a Democrat or a Republican. I consider myself liberal in some areas and conservative in others. I never vote a party line. I do a lot of reading and thinking before I make decisions. Yes, I am disgusted with President Bush and his cronies. They're an embarrassment to their party and the country. But a hater? Hating someone takes a lot of energy. Terrorists hate blindly. I'm not a terrorist. There's just a few things I hate: Lying, Exploiting the vulnerable, Evil and asparagus. Our country was founded on disagreement and discussion. Anyone who's read some of the recent books about the antics of our Founding Fathers knows it wasn't one big happy powdered-wig-fest. WHAT BUSH IS THIS? I am going to profusely apologize to my right wing friends before I start this post. I have a lot of respect for some of what they believe in and say and I will fight to the death their right to say it. You've taught me a lot. A LITTLE LIBERAL READING Many thanks to THE RICHMOND DEMOCRAT for giving me a mention in the 44th Edition of the Carnival of the Liberals. I love this quote from Moral Courage on this carnival: In order to be morally courageous, you have to honor each of these three components. You have to have principles, and really value them, and be astute enough to apply them and prioritize them in the ambiguous real world. You have to recognize the risks, and look honestly at the consequences of action and inaction.
