By Anonymous Congress (with the help of Ohel Children and Family Services, NY) has recently discovered a new method of dealing with criminals that will help Americans save billions of dollars in future tax years. The theory goes as follows: Millions of dollars are spent every year on building and maintaining prisons. This is completely unethical. Who are we to convict a criminal to be locked up in such a cruel manner? Who are we to assume that a criminal didn't already do teshuva? Besides the fact that it is very cruel, it will be very bad for the family´s shidduchim (dating/marriage partner). Therefore, the new system will work as follows: All community leaders are to be prepared to receive all allegations of murder, theft, rape, etc. And of course, our beloved community leaders are naturally capable of dealing with all such situations. 'WHIPS', 'CHAINS' and AGUNOT Josh over at ParshaBlog has a great post today about agunahs; commenting on an article in today's Wall Street Journal . I carried the article in full over on my abuse victims & survivors blog. Sultan Knish gave a wonderful comment and I hope you all take a minute to go check it out as well as read the whole article. I am grateful to him for his post . While I am not technically an agunah there are aspects of my agreement with my childrens' father that keep me "chained" and which he exploits and 'beats me over the head' (figuratively) with. I endure for the well-being of my children. I consider my comfort of little consequence when it comes to my children. Besides I am the adult. But, I do have empathy for these women. OOPS! THERE IT IS!! One of the hardest, nearly impossible thing for these failed politicans to do? Admit failure. Oh they will say things to the effect: the information I got was faulty, I made an error in judgement and so on. We have all heard it before. But one thing I tell the women I counsel is that to truly take ownership for their mistakes and failures - people must never ever include the word (actual or implied) "BUT. " BUT is an obvious sign that they are about to project and blame-shift their failures, mistakes, errors or abuse onto someone or something else. Yes, there are reasons that these mistakes are made - most of them being human error. However, a true adult and true teshuva involves NO BUTS. Olmert is backed into a corner... let's just hope he makes the right decision this time. If past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior?
