Emotional Rape: What Is It?

Image
Emotional rape can be defined as: Emotional abuse characterized by patterned and purposeful behavior which purpose is to undermine and control the victim. It is an attack on the victim's personality rather than their body. In sexual rape, the term "without consent" refer to the victim having not agreed to sex. Emotional rape is the abuse of someone's higher emotions -love, self-respect, compassion, admiration - without consent. That is, the 'rapist' doesn't tell the truth to the victim and coerces them into sharing these emotions with them while having a covert agenda. (i.e. - sex, money, etc) Emotional rape is the exploitation of a person's higher emotions through manipulation and/or deception. In her true story, two people began a romantic journey and ended up completely estranged because of his need to use her emotions to get what he wants. For this reason, it is important that people become more educated about issues of psychological and emo...

Emotional Shock & Broken Heart Syndrome

Image
This has happened to me about three times in my life - but in March 2004 when I went to the E.R. with chest pain, vomitting and faintness - the doctors finally gave it a name. STRESS CARDIOMYOPATHY. I am taking measures to see that this trauma is never visited on me again. The sudden shock of losing a loved one can cause classic heart attack-like symptoms of a broken heart, doctors say. Tragic events have been known to produce symptoms of chest pain, shortness of breath, and fluid in the lung, but no one knew why. In a new study, researchers show stress cardiomyopathy, the "broken heart syndrome" triggered by sudden emotional shock, is real. Unlike in a true heart attack in which the heart muscle is damaged permanently, those who suffer from the syndrome recover in two weeks or less after receiving fluids and bedrest. In contrast, heart attack victims partially recover in weeks or months. In the study, doctors at Johns Hopkins University used sophisticated te...

Abusive Betrayal of Love

Image
by Michele Toomey, PhD At first glance one would imagine that abusive betrayal of love refers to having an affair. That is not my focus here, however. Affairs constitute a betrayal of love, but not necessarily an abusive one. I am placing the emphasis on abusive, and that cruel act must have deliberate meanness, indifference to the pain being inflicted, and more often than not, punishment as its intent. For betrayal of love to be abusive, it must have some or all of these traits. In this particular commentary, I would like to direct attention to the abuse that frequently occurs when a relationship ends. Usually only one person wants to end a relationship. The other is often heartbroken and devastated at the prospect of losing the one s/he loves. Obviously, a very vulnerable time for both, if both have integrity and are invested in each other. However, if the one terminating the relationship lacks integrity, the only vulnerable one is the one being left. Rejection is a stinging...

Efforts to Fight Violence Against Women are Missing the Target by krerucha Domestic policies for prostitution perpetuate violence against women. Unless we are willing to address the root cause of society's acceptance of violence against women, efforts to decrease it will continue to be done in vain. According to the US Department of Justice (DOJ), prostitution is an epidemic . Reports from the DOJ indicate that the average age of entry for prostitution is 12 years. Again, let me repeat that due to absolute absurdity, the average age of entry into prostitution in the United States is 12 years young. Young girls, much like the women who enter prostitution come from broken families, live in poverty and are vulnerable to exploitation for many of the same reasons. They tend to be runaways from both families and the juvenile justice system or are ‘throwaways’ where parents have kicked their children out of their homes and into the streets. More than 90% of prostitutes have been b...

What's Your Blind Spot?

Image
Mine is being a real friend and not a "yes man." Mine is believing 2 wrongs don't make a right. Mine is not believing in revenge, hate or 'payback.' Even when maybe I should... "A real friend is someone who accept you for you, no strings attached. A real friend is someone who knows all the good and the not-so-good about you and still likes you. A real friend is someone who will do anything to help you in a crisis. A real friend is the person you call to share the happiness of the day or the frustrations of life, and listens though you may have said the same things a hundred times before. A real friend is a person who compliments your personality, challenges your choices, and accepts you regardless of the mistakes you make in life. Real friends are few in ones life and when you find one, return the favor and be a real friend back." Yes my 'blind spot' is believing in and doing anything for my friends (except lying) and people I care about - even ...

The Weaponry of Words

Image
I am no longer a trusting person. I used to be. I was very savvy... I thought. Now I don't trust even those I think I 'know.' Most especially, I don't trust myself. I rarely leave my home unless its for my children or chores. Often because I am too ill to go out. Thank goodness for my computer! But the other reason? Is because I have been filleted. With words. I have always enjoyed writing since I was a tween. As an actor I learned the power of words and inflections. I learned the power of intent. When I moved to NYC, the years I spent doing public relations work as well as schmoozing agents and producers for my acting career taught me a lot about promotion, image and some NLP (neurolinguistic programming) techniques as well. My father, of blessed memory, was in sales for 28 years and he was a very charming and persuasive man. He finally left to join law enforcement when he, as he told me, got "tired of selling lies to decent people." Never in my lif...

Lost Justice for Rape Victims

Image
By Sarah Tofte Human Rights Watch released a report Tuesday finding that Los Angeles County has at least 12,669 untested rape kits sitting in storage facilities. Sarah Tofte, a researcher for that study, calls it a case of major injustice to rape survivors. Catherine, who lives with her young son in Los Angeles, was awakened at midnight by a stranger who raped her, sodomized her and forced her to orally copulate him -- repeatedly. When it was over, the police brought her to a rape treatment center. As with all rape victims, her body was a crime scene. She consented to the collection of evidence. The lab said it would take at least eight months for it to analyze the evidence gathered from Catherine's body, known as a "rape kit." For the detective, that was too long to wait. He personally drove the kit to the state lab, where it still sat for months. When it was finally processed, it generated a "cold hit" -- the DNA matched someone in the offender database, and C...

A Spiritual Disorder

Image
PATHOLOGICAL NARCISSISM Dr. Maria Hsia Chang, Professor Political Science, University of Nevada In psychology, personality disorders refer to individual traits that reflect ingrained, inflexible, and maladaptive patterns of behavior that cause discomfort and impair a person’s ability to function--including her relations with friends and family. At least ten distinct personality disorders have been identified, one of which is the narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) that the American Psychological Association (APA) classifies as a "cluster B" disorder. NPD is a highly complex psychological-behavioral syndrome that confounds and baffles those close to the afflicted. Once understood, however, one achieves clarity of vision. Socio-biologists maintain that narcissism is natural for both individuals and groups because self-love is an instinctive, natural-selection trait. That is why all children are narcissists. As individuals mature into adulthood, however, they become less nar...

Worry, Worry, Worry

Image
Another great one from my late friend, Kathy Krajco! But I have to add something someone wrote today - about those of us injured & abused by these types of people; and what narcissistic people do when we ask for some ACKNOWLEDGMENT of our pain and what they did to us. It's spot-on: If the abuser maintains contact or accountability with you and sees your hurt and pain... it gets harder and harder to convince himself of his self-righteousness. So he disappears. He is off; reaffirming his delusions that he is 'perfect, did no wrong and never hurt you' or that you are 'just as guilty' or 'asked for it' over and over and over until he can be sure they are the "truth" he believes. by Kathy Krajco Malignant narcissists deal with the dirty, rotten things they do by denying how inferior it makes them to people with integrity. They do this by manufacturing delusions of its opposite - superiority. They do this because they are emotional children, and t...

Rape is Like Being Force-Fed Chocolate Cake

Image
If you still think society doesn't treat women like property and men don't coerce and seduce women and then make up excuses for it. If you still think sex is sex is sex no matter what -- including marital rape being a myth... If you still think blaming a victim for what you do to them (the Palestinians and Israel springs to mind...) as well as this post of mine from yesterday .. Then I have a wake up call for you: by Kira Hesser Not only can blogging wage war on your health, but public figures are getting in trouble for their online opinions. The BNP’s Nick Eriksen learnt this the hard way last week, after he was sacked as the party's London Assembly candidate for publishing jaw-droppingly obtuse views on rape on his blog. The post has since been removed, but luckily journalists were quick to spot the following: "Rape is simply sex (I am talking about 'husband-rape' here)... Women enjoy sex, so rape cannot be such a terrible physical ordeal…To suggest that...

FIND THIS "HONOR" MURDERER & BRING HIM TO JUSTICE

Image
Police are looking for Yaser Said, and below is a video of pictures of the possible different looks that he may be using: In January, 2008 - Yaser Said performed an honor killing of his two daugthers, Amina and Sarah Said (may they rest in peace). The Lewisville cab driver had been suspected of abuse in the past, according to the Dallas News . He was accused of sexual abuse when they were children, and it was recanted later by them. Many feel out of intimidation by Said, the animal. During the funeral vigil, the girls’ brother took the microphone, saying his father did not kill his sisters. “They pulled the trigger, not my dad,” he said. What do you know? Misogyny and violence against women is being passed on to the young men - in this case, the girls' OWN BROTHER. Atlas Shrugs has her usual kick-a** take on it as well as some great graphics and links: This man brought his barbaric islamic practice from Egypt, tortured these girls for years. Beat them, raped them, kicked the...
