The Mentally Ill Present a Threat in U.S. Nursing Homes

Image
This is no surprise to me, considering a violent schizophrenic was out among the public in February 2007 and murdered my therapist with a meat cleaver. All because some Medicaid doctor wouldn't keep him under lock and key - despite him being arrested and put in medical detention numerous times. Next time some elderly or infirmed person refuses the Nursing Home? You'll know why. We have to do something MORE about the mentally ill in this country. Starting with stopping thinking we can change or cure everyone! by Carla K. Johnson Ivory Jackson had Alzheimer's, but that wasn't what killed him. At 77, he was smashed in the face with a clock radio as he lay in his nursing home bed. Jackson's roommate — a mentally ill man nearly 30 years younger — was arrested and charged with the killing. Police found him sitting next to the nurse's station, blood on his hands, clothes and shoes. Inside their room, the ceiling was spattered with blood. "Why didn't they do ...

9 Year Old Rape Victim to be DENIED an Abortion

Image
Unbelievable... "save lives?" - this is truly sickening. Where is N.O.W. or Planned Parenthood? Where are the feminists who all think FauxBama is so wonderful? Turning a BLIND EYE no doubt!: Brazilian Catholic Church contests abortion for raped 9-year-old Brazil's Catholic Church has spoken out against plans for an abortion for a nine-year-old girl who was raped by her stepfather, national media reported citing church representatives. After the girl from the northeastern state of Pernambuco complained of stomach pains, a medical examination showed she was in the 16th week of pregnancy, and was carrying twins. Police say the girl had been routinely raped by her stepfather since the age of six. Medics say the girl's life could be in danger if she gives birth, but Catholic priests have threatened to go to court to prevent an abortion, the reports said. "We recognize the 'unjust' nature of this pregnancy, but we have to save lives," local Archbishop J...

Invisible Scars

Verbal abuse triggers adult anxiety, depression by Jill Elish A new study by Florida State University researchers has found that people who were verbally abused as children grow up to be self-critical adults prone to depression and anxiety. People who were verbally abused had 1.6 times as many symptoms of depression and anxiety as those who had not been verbally abused and were twice as likely to have suffered a mood or anxiety disorder over their lifetime, according to psychology Professor Natalie Sachs-Ericsson, the study's lead author. "We must try to educate parents about the long-term effects of verbal abuse on their children," Sachs-Ericsson said. "The old saying about sticks and stones was wrong. Names will forever hurt you." Sachs-Ericsson co-authored the study, published in the Journal of Affective Disorders, with FSU psychology Professor Thomas Joiner and researchers from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the University of North Caroli...

Catholics & Jews Must Stand Together in the Face of Islamism

Image
by Will Heaven For the first time since the death of Pope John Paul II, Catholic-Jewish relations have become strained. Pope Benedict XVI, in an effort to heal a 20-year-old schism in the Catholic Church, has allowed a high-profile Holocaust denier back into his fold. But must the views of one lunatic bishop put an end to interreligious dialogue? Surely not. Now, more than any other time in our troubled history, Catholics and Jews must stand together against the threat of Islamism. The Holocaust-denying Bishop Williamson is, by all accounts, a deeply unpleasant and ignorant man. Despite being educated at Cambridge University, he rejects the existence of the gas chambers in Nazi concentration camps. In doing so, he denies the Holocaust as a historical event, claiming that "only" 300,000 Jews perished. To Roman Catholics, these views are intolerable. The pope has expressed his disapproval in the strongest terms, saying to an American Jewish delegation, "The hatred that was...

The Cost of Criticizing Jihadists

Image
By Nat Hentoff Geert Wilders - a film producer and also a member of parliament in the Netherlands - is facing a prison term there for "insulting" Muslims. His short film "Fitna" in 2008 juxtaposed verses from the Koran with scenes of violence committed by jihadist terrorists. The Dutch appellate court refused a free-speech defense because the insults were so egregious. If convicted, Wilders faces a maximum sentence of two years in prison. Said the defendant: "I lost my freedom already four and a half years ago in October 2004, when my 24-hour police protection started because of threats by Muslims in Holland and abroad to kill me." I have heard from Muslims in this country that jihadists around the world have more than insulted traditional Muslim law by their fierce punishments of both non-Muslims and Muslims who have acted in speech or writing against jihadists' reinterpretations of the Quran. Some of these protesters, exercising freedom of conscience...

Obama Should Return to His Muslim Roots

Image
From THE REAL BARACK OBAMA: Claiming President-elect Barack Obama has roots in the Islamic religion, Egyptian cleric Hassan Abu Al-Ashbal (left) has broadcast a plea urging Obama to convert to Islam while warning if the U.S. doesn’t withdraw its troops from the Middle East and provide aid to Muslims, those “eager for [death]” will attack America, Aaron Klein, Jerusalem bureau chief for World Net Daily, reported December 7, 2008. Claiming President-elect Barack Obama has roots in the Islamic religion, an Egyptian cleric has broadcast a plea ( video clip ) urging Obama to convert to Islam while warning if the U.S. doesn’t withdraw its troops from the Middle East and provide aid to Muslims, those “eager for [death]” will attack America. “My message to [Obama] is threefold. First, I invite him to convert to Islam. This is the call of the Prophet and of Allah. Oh Obama - convert to Islam, and you will be saved,” began Egyptian cleric Hassan Abu Al-Ashbal speaking last week on the state-f...

Father Pleads for His THREE YEAR OLD Not to be Married Off

Image
Yes, that was not a typo. THREE YEARS OLD! Positively depraved. Pakistan: A father has pleaded for help, as a local influential man has demanded him to marry his three-year-old daughter to his son, threatening to kill her otherwise. Addressing a press conference at the National Press Club here on Sunday Rahib Shar, resident of village Aatna Mori, taluka Sindhri has accused that one Abdul Rahim Shar of threatening to kidnap and kill his three-year-old daughter Saleemat if he did not marry her to his son. The father of the girl said that he had asked Rahim to wait till his daughter reaches the age of maturity, but instead he was threatened with dire consequences. Rahib Shar said he had submitted applications to the Mirpurkhas DPO and the Mirpurkhas district and sessions judge. But despite the directives of the DPO and orders of the sessions judge to register a case against the accused, the Phuladyyoon SHO was hesitant to take any action and not providing him protection, he accused. He...

Plug Pulled on Book about Islam's Prophet's Child Bride

Image
Book Based on Prophet Muhammad's Child Bride Yanked At 11th Hour A racy, historical novel based on the Prophet Muhammad's child bride A'isha was supposed to hit book stores in the U.S. Tuesday. But in a rare case of self-censorship to preempt possible violent reaction by Muslims, one of the world's largest publishing houses pulled the plug on the book just before its release date. Sherry Jones, author of The Jewel of Medina , said she received word from Random House Inc. that the book's release would be "postponed indefinitely." The decision came after copies of her book were sent to stores, her book tour was scheduled and her work of fiction was accepted by the Book of the Month Club (it was scheduled to be in the August selection). "My book is a respectful portrayal of Islam, of A'isha, of Muhammad. And anyone who reads it with [an] open mind will come away with an understanding of Islam as a peaceful religion," said the American author. Cl...

Mother? or Brainwashed Enabler of Murder?

Image
I know, unfortunately, what brainwashing, manipulation & coercion can do. You do things that are well outside your normal and even acceptable range. Your emotions and psyche are played with. Are these Islamic Women brainwashed by their culture? Into saying O.K. to the extermination of their own children? I don't know and I can't imagine it for myself. But is it possible that these coercive men literally abuse and beat these women into submission and agreement with the bloody compact of honor killing? It's a Stockholm Syndrome that turns my stomach... but I would have to make an educated assessment that yes - it is possible. However, nothing and no one would ever convince me that makes it RIGHT. MURDEROUS MOTHERS: THE HIDDEN FEMALE FACE OF HONOR KILLING by Phyllis Chesler Texas-born Patricia ("Tissie) Said, formerly of the Owens family, is the mother who lured her two teenage daughters, Sarah and Amina, to their deaths at the hands of their own father this past...

New York Times: Afraid of Conservatives

Image
Looks like the New York Slimes is more than an anti-semitic mouthpiece. It's a bully who runs from big guns like the Neocons and beats up on nice guys like Israel. NY Times Holds Stories Because They're Afraid of Conservatives By Cenk Uygur The John McCain-Vicki Iseman story is not the first article the New York Times has held back for political reasons. They have now done this on at least three occasions: 1. The original FISA story on how the Bush administration was not getting warrants for wiretaps inside the United States. 2. The original story in 2004 that showed Osama bin Laden was hiding in Pakistan, not Afghanistan. 3. The McCain-Iseman story. We had James Risen, the writer of the first two stories on our show [1] back in 2005 and he admitted that they held the Bin Laden story until after the 2004 election because the New York Times didn't want to "get caught up in the politics of it." [2] Another way of stating that is that they were afraid of being calle...

How The Bush Administration Uses Fear As A Political Tool by Randolph T Holhut With public support for the Iraq war hovering around 30 percent, the Bush administration is falling back on a familiar strategy it loves to use when it find itself in trouble — scaring the American people. On Tuesday, the National Intelligence Estimate, which reflects the consensus view of the 16 U.S. spy agencies, was released to the press. It states that al-Qaida is stepping up efforts to sneak terror operatives into the United States and has acquired most of the capabilities it needs to strike here. President Bush immediately seized upon the report's findings as justification for the continued U.S. occupation of Iraq. Bush still believes that al-Qaida is responsible for the violence in Iraq, something that has been repeatedly proven false. And, for good measure, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff chimed in last week, saying he had a "gut feeling" that another major terrorist atta...

DISTURBING SYNCHRONICITY The last couple weeks, one of my children has been in a down-cycle in terms of their self-control and acting out. I've been having many "I love you, but I don't love your behavior" chats. The learning disability in play is making it hard as well as the early onset of puberty, rushing hormones and having a single mother trying to meet all their needs with my precarious health. But I continue to apply as much love and discipline as possible to the situation. That's my job. I sit down and open my news readers and see what's going on in the world. The first thing that comes to mind when I read is the legal definition of (domestic) abuse: Domestic abuse is a pattern of behavior used to establish and maintain power or control over a domestic partner or family member. The behavior may include: acts of violence, intimidation, threats, psychological abuse, isolation, etc. to coerce and control the other person. Once again, my work in help...
