Gene Linked with Physical Pain Sensitivity Associated with Social Rejection Sensitivity

Image
Those rejected by romantic partners are more likely to tolerate abuse from a new partner... now we know why women put up with pathological men (and vice versa). Ugh! Naomi Eisenberger & Shelley E. Taylor Science Daily UCLA psychologists have determined for the first time that a gene linked with physical pain sensitivity is associated with social pain sensitivity as well. Their study indicates that variation in the mu-opioid receptor gene (OPRM1), often associated with physical pain, is related to how much social pain a person feels in response to social rejection. People with a rare form of the gene are more sensitive to rejection and experience more brain evidence of distress in response to rejection than those with the more common form. The research was published Aug. 14 in the early online edition of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and will appear in the print version in the coming weeks. The findings give weight to the common notion that rejection "hurts...

Time for a Wine Summit on Sexism

Image
PUMAs were screaming about this before the election! When are we going to stop letting that liar, Obama - scream racism and start calling him and all his political cronies on their RAMPANT SEXISM!? No one is more arrogant toward women, more aggressive or scornful, than the man who is anxious about his virility. - Simone de Beauvoir Time for a Summit on SEXISM by Kirsten Powers Now that we've had a beer summit on race, how about a wine sum mit on sexism? In the latest edition of an online feature called "Mouthpiece Theater," Washington Post political reporter Dana Milbank attempted a joke about what kind of beer Hillary Clinton would drink at the "beer summit." Clad in a Hugh Hefner-style silk bathrobe, he smirks to viewers, "We won't tell you who's getting a bottle of 'Mad Bitch' beer." A photo of the secretary of state then appears. Hilarious. This isn't some random blogger or even an opinion columnist expressing vile views. Thi...

Menorah Lit at Polish Parliament This was a long time coming. As a great-granddaughter of Polish Immigrants who ran from religious persecution - this is wonderful event. A light of hope in some dim times for the Jewish people. Może Bóg Przynoszą Pokój do *Jews* Polski The Jewish community in Poland made history last week when Vice President Jaroslaw Kalinowski hosted a Chanukah menorah lighting in the Sejm, the Polish parliament. Poland has had a mixed history in its relationship with the Jews who settled there since the Dark Ages. Kalinowski lit the shamash candle last Monday night accompanied by Rabbi Shalom Stambler, co-director of Chabad-Lubavitch of Poland who organized the event, Chabad.org reported via Catholic World News Friday. "It is highly symbolic for Jews and non-Jews alike that the Chanukah candles could be illuminated from the very halls from which Polish laws are made," said Stambler. Jewish leaders noted that of late Poland has had a...

NONE SO BLIND... The piece below is pure satire ( just in case after reading it, it wasn't obvious to you. ) But it does lampoon something that is pure stupidity. The U.S. thinking that being so politically correct to Islamofascists is going to make them play nice. I posted an article here the other day about the Sickness Inside an Abusive Marriage. It was right on point. Believe me. I've lived it. Not just with my ex but with friends and guys I dated for a nano-second. At first everything is hunky dory. They may even actually care about you for a second. Then they get tired, bored or just plain cruel and nothing you say or do is right. Nothing you try is enough for them. NOTHING. Everything you say and do is wrong. You are wrong for breathing and you are even MORE wrong for having feelings. They should be able to tap dance all over you with stilletos and you should get up and smile about it. They blame you for everything from global warming to telling you the p...

Religious rhetoric isn’t bad; hypocrisy is I've been told I am a fairly tolerant person - in fact, sometimes too tolerant. Aside from not suffering fools gladly there is one sort of person I can't abide. The liar and hypocrite. When your words and your actions don't jive, when you say one thing and do another - you lie not only to the very people whose support you need - you lie to Hashem. You can't fool Hashem - he sees everything - and so does a good mirror. By Andrew Hammond President Bush’s inaugural speech was like all of his other presidential speeches: It was filled with religious rhetoric. Bush’s speechwriter, Michael Gerson, has unabashedly admitted to intentionally employing that tradition in presidential addresses. Many liberals believe that this practice is disrespectful to those Americans who are not part of a particular religious affiliation. They believe that it is one more example that Bush is pandering to the religious right, that he is making a dis...
