JEWS GETTING BACK TO THEIR CORE I am posting Douglas Rushkoff's powerful essay here because I found it intriguing. As a "nu" Jew I am still dealing with the pecking order of my shul as well as the infrastructure of Judaism. Which I loathe. I have never been terribly class conscious. In fact, in my upper middle class family I was frequently punished for having what my mother, of blessed memory, considered "low class friends" or talking with people who "aren't even in your league, Barbara." I would ask "what league is that? They look human to me." Unfortunately, this didn't sit well with my mother at all. Jewish Outreach groups do a wonderful job but are they doing what is needed? Does a Jew define themselves by the shul they belong to? Or which Kabbalah Center they've hitched themselves to? How big a blow out their son's Bar Mitzvah was? How much they've contributed to causes? Their politics? How many times they...
