Women Are Not Entitled to Their Anger

Image
The press will never get it, because it sells papers. A woman betrays a man and she's a HORRIBLE WHORE, SCUM , a COMPLETE SLUT. But a man betrays a woman - AND she becomes outraged and goes into a mental tailspin? He might be a CHEATER or DIRTBAG but she's a PSYCHO, SCORNED WOMAN, BUNNY BOILER, OUT OF CONTROL, STALKER , a NUTJOB . Just as the misogyny of the Obots shut down Hillary's rightful chances at the Presidency, misogyny still rules the day because women ARE NOT ENTITLED TO BE ANGRY. Especially when abused & used in interpersonal relationships. Nope, we women are supposed to take it. To women who were taught that it is unladylike to express anger, the presumably therapeutic yelling and cursing of the current let-it-all-hang-out generation is often shocking. But now a major new study has strongly suggested that both the old style of keeping anger in and the newer tendency to release it explosively are equally poor ways of expressing this fundamental ...

The Dark Side of PCOS

Image
I was diagnosed with Stein-Leventhal Syndrome in 1966. My own mother called me a freak. Eventually a lot of other people did too. Until 9 years ago even doctors didn't fully "get it" and blamed the patient. Some still do that . I thought I was alone with it. Now called PCOS I realize how this scourge has ruled my life as a woman, and still does today. I could have written this article below, almost word for word. Thank you for taking the time to read this and pass this on to a woman you think will benefit from reading it. If you need to know more about PCOS visit the PCOS Association . Or you can write to me (link on right) by Pam The purpose of this is not a public pity party. After dealing with the emotions involved with PCOS firsthand, I think it's important for people to know what can go on in a woman's head. If you have PCOS, you know exactly what I'm talking about. If you know someone or are the partner to someone who has it, this may explain a few...

Terrorism = Tantrums

Image
Hat tip GIYUS Ever observed a child having a tantrum? I have. One of my children is learning disabled and has tantrums that resemble cyclones. Now, how many of you have seen adults have them? I have - I've seen bosses, people on line at a store and people on mass transit have them. They don't want to "share" or admit to anything. They want it their way. Now. Of course, we've seen a lot of it online . People who just aren't getting their way. Bloggers who don't like reality or don't deal well with disagreement. And most of all trolls who decide that rather than dealing with things in an adult fashion - like civil debate - they will malign, smear, lie and cheat to gain sympathy and to gain the upper hand. They may even write blog posts about you or covert posts about you to tear you down. Its their site, and they figure - they will wield it like a bat if need be. Terrorism is a form of a tantrum. Albeit a deadly one. They don't get what t...

Deception = Awareness of The Truth

Image
My friend Anna had a disordered parent like I did. Often when we discuss it, it's almost like we had the same parent. There is an understanding between us and other ACONS (Adult Children of Narcissists) that is only possible between people who have been through a war - and know the terror, rage and empty feeling that comes from knowing you meant nothing to that parent other than a prop to be used and abused. The very person who is supposed to UNCONDITIONALLY love & nuture you twists you into an abuse-ignoring, bad-treatment accepting blind person who has to take back their lives, inch by excruciating inch. And then -- somehow come to terms with what love really is and with what was missing in their lives that can never, ever be replaced or reparented. Anna's blog is a must-read for me and anyone who's been through this sort of growing up. Reminder - that anyone who has/ had and abusive partner, friend, coworker, boss, parent or watched politicians for a few years wi...

Dems, Now You've Really Ticked Us Off

This excellent post from Ani over at NoQuarter ust about sums up what I have been feeling & thinking for the last few months -- except that she is more more eloquent than I ever could be. She elucidates an emotion I have felt a few times in my life -- and I am feeling it now every time I hear or see Barack Obama. RAGE These past eight years, every time I saw George Bush on television or heard one of his idiotic sound bytes, I felt the bile rise in my throat. What horrid nonsense is this snake oil salesman spewing now? What other inanity can spring forth to pretend the economy is fine or that we can say “Mission Accomplished” about Iraq? And if he says the word ‘nuke-u-lar’ one more time, I will scream!! At the start of 2008, I felt buoyed by a sense of hope. I took out the “Bush” countdown calendar someone had given my husband and actually started leafing through it. This was challenging in itself, because, unlike some stand-ups who use Bush-isms to provide endless fodder for the...

Group Helplessness and Rage

Image
by Ernest S. Wolf, MD (This paper originally was delivered at the International Self-Psychology Symposium in Dreieich, Germany, May, 2001.) Our topic for tonight, the problem of group violence, is one of the most important issues facing society. Not only is this a most crucial topic for our American society but we are confronted with events that are occurring all over the globe, on all continents and in all countries. While it is obvious that the daily news pin-point the current hottest areas of conflict, such as the Middle East, the Balkans, and certain regions of Africa, there seems to be no spot on this earth that is safe from unreasoning violence. Individuals as well as groups are in danger of being destroyed. How are we to understand these phenomena? I will attempt to bring two psychoanalytic perspectives to bear on these questions. A classic Freudian view derives the anger that is being expressed in hostile actions to an instinctual drive of aggression which is mo...
