Does That Doll Come in the Beheaded Version?

Image
Boycott Burqa Barbie by Phyllis Chesler What will they think of next? A be-headed doll? That’s right. I am talking about the new Burqa Barbie [1]doll which is now on display in Florence, Italy, to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the Barbie doll. As my colleague over at weaselzippers [2] wonders: Will clean-cut Ken now come (pun intended, ‘tis mine) with four burqa’ed Barbie doll wives ? Ah, I am such a Grinch. After all, the Burqa Barbie is being auctioned off for the Save the Children charity. Save the Children? Surely, you must be jesting. I would like to save the children from this as well as from every other Barbie doll. (Yes, I know Barbie has diversified and now comes in every color and profession). But naked, even Doctor Barbie is still a pagan goddess or fertility figure but one with absolutely no relationship to female biology or reality. Barbies are always anatomically impossible: their feet are pre-shaped for high heels, their breasts are high, firm, and perky—like ...

Wolf Attempts to Sanitize -- Chelser Tells It Like It Is

Image
More from the great Uppity Woman. And more reasons I adore Uppity and Phyllis Chesler. I can't improve on what UW says so I am giving her some bandwith. How long are we going to put up with nonsense like Naomi Wolf's in trying to sanitize these monsters? A WINCINGLY AWFUL ARTICLE For those of you who don’t know of Naomi Wolf, here she is at roughly 2:35. IF YOU ARE ON AN AGGREGATOR - CLICK HERE TO SEE THE ABOVE VIDEO Now that you are refreshed, please read Naomi’s article, ”Behind The Veil Lives A Thriving Muslim Sexuality” . No kidding. That’s the title. Please read the entire piece before you read the rest of my post. Take your time. I want you to get it all. I’ll wait…. Dum De Dum, De Da Da………………… …………..All done reading? How ya doin’? Are your eyes bulging? Is that a head explosion I just saw in the second row? Honestly, at first I thought this article was a satire. To recap, Ms. Wolf wore a head scarf and a ”shalwar kameez“ (a far cry from a burqa) during her visit...

WE'VE TRADED OUTRAGE FOR POLITICAL CORRECTNESS! The Outrage of Allowing American Muslim Women to Hide Their Face For a Driver's License Photo M. Toomey, PhD In 2002, Florida allowed a Muslim woman to have her driver's license picture taken with her face hidden. In the name of civil rights, religious custom was allowed to supersede a woman's human right to exist as an individual with an identity of her own. With her face hidden, a woman is declared the property of a man. Sexism of this magnitude should never be tolerated, yet without any public outcry, it is not only tolerated it is given legal sanction, in the name of freedom of religion. Why do we use a picture as identification on a driver's license in the first place? For the same reason I am decrying the permission to have a woman's face covered for the picture. To make it possible to identify us from our picture. Our face is the primary basis for this photo recognition. Not our hands. Not our feet. Not our ...

Freeing Afghan Women Will Take More Than Allowing Them to Take off Their Burqua Michele Toomey, PhD The graphic pictures of Afghan women walking around covered and hindered by their burqua is so painful to see, but as they become free to take them off, that may be pain that we don't see. They have not only been forced to be hidden, they have grown accustomed to it and to the violence directed at them as women. What will exposure feel like? Will it feel freeing or frightening? I would like to address the prospect of fear. These women have been raped, beaten, and even shot, at a moments notice and at a man's whim. They have known slavery and captivity, all because they are women. Now they are going to uncover for all the men to see. How safe is that going to feel? How freeing does that seem? For some, probably not freeing at all, only more frightening at the prospect of such exposure. If we really do care about the plight of Afghan women, we had better provide them with psycholo...

Muslim Women Don't See Themselves as Oppressed, Survey Finds IS THIS FOR REAL? Why am I not surprised that this was in that pooper-scooper THE NEW YORK TIMES. Or is this report smoking the Dhimmi Carter crack? Of course they don't feel oppressed - THEY LIVE IN A CLOSED SOCIETY and DON'T KNOW ANY BETTER. And then there's the "my husband and family will stone me to death if I speak my mind." Wow! I thought I'd read the most outrageous media spin before but this one really is the cherry on the sundae. Muslim women do not think they are conditioned to accept second-class status or view themselves as oppressed, according to a survey released Tuesday by The Gallup Organization. According to the poll, conducted in 2005, a strong majority of Muslim women believe they should have the right to vote without influence, work outside the home and serve in the highest levels of government. In more than 8,000 face-to-face interviews conducted in eight predominantly Musl...
