The outrage of its drafters, three devoted civil servants - State Prosecutor Moshe Lador, Jerusalem District Attorney Eli Abarbanel and Abarbanel's deputy, Uri Corb - comes clearly through the text. It is not often that an indictment against a senior public figure accused of fraud, deceit and abusing his position and status is worded the way this one is. The gravity of the consolidated indictment, comprising three different cases, lies not in the serious offenses they detail, involving fraudulent record-keeping and fraudulent receipt of funds. Rather, it lies in the aggravating circumstances under which the offenses were allegedly committed. In 1981, I applied for a U.S. Passport. I needed to get a copy of my birth certificate, which my mother gave me. However, it wasn't the one issued by the city and state of my birth - the only one she had was notification of my Baptism - just a couple weeks after I was born. Wait a second... nothing in my life has really ever been that simple... I wrote the Health Dept. of the city where I was born and obtained a State-Certified copy... along with a note... that my original birth certificate had not been 'stamped' (i.e. that the official seal of the State had not been embossed onto it) and that they had redone that for me. Out-of-network insurance practices face scrutiny Ever wonder how that bill was calculated if you had to pay to see a doctor outside your insurance network? Might be a scam, says a senator investigating the issue. Sen. Jay Rockefeller, chairman of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, wants answers at a hearing Tuesday from the chief executives of UnitedHealth Group Inc. and its subsidiary Ingenix Inc., a claims database used by insurers nationwide to calculate out-of-network rates. The inquiry follows lawsuits and an investigation by New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo alleging that UnitedHealth and Ingenix manipulated rate data so insurers had to pay less and patients more for out-of-network services. "They're lowballing deliberately. They deliberately cut the numbers so the consumer has to pay more of the cost," Rockefeller, D-W.Va., said in an interview with The Associated Press on Friday. They might pass some law changes on the insurance companies if they had to find one. Stop paying Lawmakers their full salary after serving just one term or at retirement. We need to get rid of that pension plan; they’ve let other companies get rid of theirs. You were luck to get 40-50 percent of your salary after 35 years, but they get 100 percent. However, according to a recent report by the Government Accountability Office (GAO), this five-story office building is home to more than 18,000 corporate entities, nearly half of which have U.S. ties. In the past few years, the number of corporations flocking to places like the Cayman Islands to evade U.S. taxes has exploded. One of these companies, former Halliburton subsidiary KBR, has used offshore tax havens to avoid paying hundreds of millions of dollars in federal taxes.
