I Am Woman

By: Sara Esther Crispe I'll never forget how I felt the day my gender studies teacher made the claim that there are absolutely no differences between men and women. I looked around, shocked at the proposition, and wondering if anyone else felt the same. For most of the semester, we had it pounded into our heads that all distinctions between those of different races, geographical locations or habitats were really all the same, and that it was merely society that tried to push that there were actual differences. Perhaps she was right, we all thought. Maybe we had really just bought into society’s definitions and desire to separate. Perhaps it was racist to claim that generally speaking black men were taller than asian men. And sexist to feel that men were physically stronger than women. But then one day, when I could resist no longer, I had to ask a question. If we were really the same, I mean, practically the exact same, then why were women born with a womb and the ability to carry ...

WHEN THREATENED BY A WOMAN? HARASS HER!

This study doesn't surprise me at all. There are far too many smart, independent, college-educated women in the workforce and public life these days for this not to be the case. Bullies always threaten what scares them. Usually its someone who is more competent, perhaps perceived as being smarter, and even people whistleblowers. And when you can't find some character flaw to pick on - pick on their gender. Bullies also hate truth tellers. Truth tellers must be eliminated, defamed and silenced at all cost! When I was working I had this happen to me more times than I could count. I would end up working for someone (sometimes another woman) when it became apparent they weren't as intelligent or intuitive as me. And if I tried to better my position, they'd pick on me as a woman. I've been called a lesbian, a castrator, a man-hater, overwrought female, and asked if I 'had PMS' because of a management decision someone else didn't agree with. I am going...

From THE NEW AGENDA by Amy Siskind An article posted yesterday in The Huffington Post proclaiming Obama Gets Gender Right in First 100 Days has many women seeing red. Here’s the author, C. Nicole Mason’s arguments: Obama lifted the global gag rule The first piece of legislation he signed into to law as President was the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act Obama’s Cabinet is also chock full of extremely accomplished stateswomen and issue advocates. With two cabinet positions still open, Obama has appointed or nominated a total of eight women to his cabinet or to high-level positions. Less than a month shy of his 100 days, Obama created the White House Council for Women and Girls. I say this to Nicole - I’ll give you one of four. Yes, President Obama did appoint Valerie Jarrett to chair the newly created White House Council for Women and Girls. The New Agenda did speak out in The Daily Beast to cheer this action on. Of course, we’ve yet to hear a peep from this new Council. But, I ...

Gender Bias Remains Alive & Strong

Wah wah wah!! Us whiny women... all we do is whine that we aren't equal. All in how you frame it, however. You call it whining - I call it telling the truth. Funny how scary we women seem to be when we tell the truth! I am not even going to try to speak to those thick-headed enough to believe this. But most men still do. Most men still think they should be in charge at their church or temple and at work. Look at the Islamofascists who tell women to cover up because they can't control themselves around beauty, yet when some woman gets raped through no fault of her own - she's subject to an honor killing. When I was in Eighth Grade my mother got a call from my school. She got these a lot, not because I was a trouble maker but because many teachers didn't know what to do with me. I was breaking their mold. I'd written an essay on abortion rights and women's rights. The teacher and principal both said it was excellent but "too controversial." My ...

Bush May Veto Hate Crime Bill With Gender Focus Does the Chimp-in-Charge do this because he's a bully and doesn't care? Or just because he can? Please let Bush & Cheney know you want this bill APPROVED! President Bush: comments@whitehouse.gov Vice President Cheney : vice_president@whitehouse.gov Comments: 202-456-1111 Switchboard: 202-456-1414 FAX: 202-456-2461 TTY/TDD - Comments: 202-456-6213 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ By Allison Stevens -- Washington Bureau Chief A bill to add gender into federal hate crimes legislation faces a veto threat. Proponents say it would help protect victims of crimes who are targeted for being female and the benefit to women is being obscured in the debate over sexuality. Women's rights groups are making a last-ditch push to enact legislation that would expand existing "hate crimes" laws to include gender and other categories such as sexual orientation, gender identity and disability. The bill cleared a major hurdle on May 4...
