Why Doesn't My Doctor Know This?

Image
by Kent Holtorf, MD -- ImmuneSupport.com I found this out 15 years ago when trying to get a diagnosis other than " its all in your head " for the reason I was: paralyzed at the time on the left side, unable to eat, in excruciating pain that defied words, unable to walk more than 2 feet without falling over, and running a fever that would not go away. When a doctor who knew what she was talking about looked at the already done CAT scan and blood work? My diagnosis jumped out at her. She was appalled that it was missed but not surprised. Other doctors? Dismissed it as nothing simply because they didn't understand it or were uninformed. Because they were uninformed? stupid? unwilling to deal with a chronically ill patient? pressured by the insurance companies to get rid of chronically ill patients? or all of the prior?   A question that is often raised by patients is “Why doesn’t my doctor know all of this?” The reason is that the overwhelming majority (all b...

Explaining Your Chronic Illness to Others

Image
How to Help Others Relate to Your Chronic Illness by Ellinorianne One of the biggest challenges for those of us struggling with Chronic Illness is that we may not "look" sick and those around us may not get how we are forced to make compromise with our lives at every turn. For me, it has had a lot to do with work and trying to communicate to my coworkers how my Fibromyalgia affects my ability to deal with everyday tasks. The last few weeks have been rather difficult, just Tuesday I spent a good twenty minutes staring between my computer and my work trying to figure exactly what it was I needed to do. My brain fog was just kicking in, I hadn't been getting enough sleep and I was not fully functional. I probably LOOKED fine but I was not okay and had to leave early. I was almost in tears because I was so frustrated, tired and hurting. Symptoms of Fibro-fog The severity of Fibro-fog fluctuates from day to day, as well as from person to person. The following is ...

Narcissism and the Human Condition

Image
Narcissism is a normal feature of human development. All human beings are born narcissistic. Narcissism is experiencing life in such a way that the real, external world is experienced as unreal, with the self alone as real. The narcissistic person does not accept that the real world has autonomous existence and is populated with real independent human beings; rather, all is some construction of their own mind, experienced only in terms of their own thoughts and feelings, hopes and desires. And when the real world demands some response, they either fail to respond, disconnecting themselves from it, or respond solely in terms of themselves. Narcissism is universal in primitive cultures. Human social evolution is the gradual overcoming of narcissism. The universality of narcissism as an aspect of psychological development is due to the fact that all human beings are conscious. The self, which is to a person the most important thing in existence, is not a fixed entity, since it is cr...

This is For All The Mothers

Image
Got this in email from a friend and felt it was worth sharing: This is for the mothers who have sat up all night with sick toddlers in their arms, saying, "It's all right honey, Mommy's here." Who have sat in rocking chairs for hours on end soothing crying babies who can't be comforted. This is for the mothers who gave birth to babies they'll never see. And the mothers who took those babies and gave them homes. This is for all the mothers who go hungry, so their children can eat. For all the mothers who read "Goodnight, Moon" twice a night for a year. And then read it again. "Just one more time." This is for every mother whose head turns automatically when a little voice calls "Mom?" in a crowd, even though they know their own offspring are at home -- or even away at college. This is for mothers whose children have gone astray, who can't find the words to reach them. For all the mothers of the victims of r...

Biggest Recipient of BP Cash? Guess!

Image
By Erika Lovley While the BP oil geyser pumps millions of gallons of petroleum into the Gulf of Mexico, President Barack Obama and members of Congress may have to answer for the millions in campaign contributions they’ve taken from the oil and gas giant over the years. BP and its employees have given more than $3.5 million to federal candidates over the past 20 years, with the largest chunk of their money going to Obama, according to the Center for Responsive Politics . Donations come from a mix of employees and the company’s political action committees — $2.89 million flowed to campaigns from BP-related PACs and about $638,000 came from individuals. On top of that, the oil giant has spent millions each year on lobbying — including $15.9 million last year alone — as it has tried to influence energy policy. During his time in the Senate and while running for president, Obama received a total of $77,051 from the oil giant and is the top recipient of BP PAC and individual money over ...

Spirituality as a Means of Coping with Chronic Illness

Image
Spirituality as a Means of Coping with Chronic Illness A few years back I was told by a couple people whom I assumed cared about me, that they thought I was useless or didn't want to deal with a sick person. I turned to the one entity who I knew would never abandon me. When you have a disability or chronic illness, many times there is nothing you can do about curing yourself - but there is plenty you can do about coping. M. Michelle Rowe Individuals with chronic illnesses often deal with intense physical and psychological stressors as a consequence of living with an illness. The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between spirituality and coping ability. Participants with various chronic illnesses completed the Spiritual Involvement and Belief Scale (SIBS), the Coping Styles Scale, and a demographics questionnaire. A significant positive correlation was found between spirituality and the ability to cope. However, only one coping style, Intrusive Positive Tho...

He's Back! Ahmadinejad in NYC This Week Justifying His Nukes

Image
The U.N. (currently one of the most useless organizations on the planet) once again welcomes Iranian terrorist Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to NYC. My city. Once again, I hope hotels turn him down and that NYPD's Finest ticket every diplomatic automobile that clogs our streets - particularly ones that are sympathetic to this lowlife piece of ****. Why's he coming - well there's a month-long periodic review of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Yup, Mahmoud wants the bomb. And his buddies the Egyptians plan to raise demands for Israel's nuclear disarmament. Blaming the victim again. But, Mahmoud should have them... that's right - let's put global annihilation in the hands of a madman! Good thinking U.N.!!! (feh...) Go home Mahmoud. You're not welcome here. And the U.N.? Well I think of a thousand different uses for that piece of real estate. It will save me flipping the place off every time I drive, stroll or am driven by. I'm tired... there are so ma...
