Did the FBI or Obama Send A Message to Israel?

By Larry Johnson

Last night’s arrest of a U.S. citizen who thought he was spying for Israel is going to unleash a fascinating dynamic. The Washington Post reported this morning:
Stewart D. Nozette, 52, was arrested on a charge of attempted espionage and is being held pending an initial appearance Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Washington, authorities said.

Authorities said the charges stemmed an undercover sting operation in which an FBI agent posed as an Israeli spy. Nozette allegedly passed the agent sensitive information through a “dead drop” at a D.C. post office in recent weeks, authorities said.

Nozette worked for the Energy Department’s Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory from 1990 through 1999, prosecutors said. He was credited with helping develop a radar in 1994 that suggested ice on the south pole of the moon.

He was president of the Alliance for Competitive Technology, a nonprofit group he founded in 1990. He has held security clearances as high as top secret and had regular access to classified information as recently as 2006, federal authorities said./blockquote>

I think this was a great move by the FBI. I am fascinated that some of the conservative blogs, Hot Air in particular, are averting their eyes and not discussing this.

This is huge. The FBI was smarting after its case against the American Israeli Political Action Committee was tossed out earlier this year. I do not think that will happen in this case. They have arrested a guy who thought he was working for Israel.

You can be sure this has sent a chill down the spines of the Mossad operatives working in the United States to recruit human sources. It is not going to stop the Israelis but it will make them extra nervous for sure. I do not get too upset when these kinds of cases break. That would be like getting upset at your dog for licking his balls or sniffing your crotch. That’s what dogs do. Intelligence organizations try to recruit people who have access to information they want. Very simple. I understand why Israel is nervous about the United States plans and policies. They want inside our knickers (and if you think we are not doing the same to Israel then I would like to sell you a bridge in Brooklyn).

What will Israel do in retaliation? Their priority is protecting Israel. They are certainly scrambling today to find out if this is the FBI doing this on its own or if it was an action that had the blessing of the Obama team. The answer to why this happened will drive the reaction of Israel and its spies in the United States.
