Both my friend and her mum (Elaine - Rivka bat Chaim) are disabled. Elaine has lipodema. But now she's been diagnosed with Stage 2 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma a form of breast cancer which has spread and is growing moderately fast. Investigative surgery was done on 6/12/07 and we await the results and Elaine's recuperation.
Anyone who knows about the U.K. knows people like Elaine are medically supported by the National Health Service. A good enough service for the well. But when you are disabled already and something like this happens - you need to be seen by a specialist. Unfortunately that means scraping up money to pay for one.
Being disabled means Elaine, now having breast cancer, needs a specialist. My friend has posted some of her paintings on her LiveJournal for sale to raise money for her mother to see a specialist. I've lost a number of friends to cancer. My own mother, of blessed memory, had a bout with breast cancer that left her very weak and eventually her already bad cardiac problems got worse and she passed away 7 years ago. My children's father has had a number of incidents of skin cancer; my father - of blessed memory - had colon cancer - which he beat. My sister-in-law's mother, of blessed memory - battled cancer valiantly for 4 years but eventually lost her fight. My personal list goes on and on as I am sure yours does too. Cancer is a horrible illness. It's sufferers need proper care. Especially those who already have physical problems, like Elaine.
