I just wanted to provide everyone with some links to check out regarding the brutal, senseless murder of my friend and therapist, Kathryn Faughey:

I spoke with 6 reporters today and an 8 second on camera blurb from me was used on the NYC local ABC/ Eyewitness News last night. I will tell you what I told them... this was a wonderful therapist. Truly gifted, sensitive and intelligent.

Personally, I feel the animal that did this to her took a piece of me with her. I don't know how I would have gotten through some of the traumatic and stressful changes that have happened to me in the last 15 years without her. I am sure her other patients feel the same way.

I am very upset with some people I have heard (mostly from outside of NYC) asking why the building doesn't have a metal detector, why the doctor didn't have a 'panic button' and why therapist offices are allowed in residential apartment buildings. The last comment, everyone in New York City knows there are 1000s of doctor offices of all sort in residential buildings all over Manhattan. This victim blaming is just disgusting.

Dr. Faughey's office was on the first floor like 1000s of other offices like hers. She didn't treat psychopaths. Besides, psychopaths are not people you can tell with just your eyes! Did Scott Peterson or the BTK look "psycho"? No.

I have looked at that police sketch long & hard. He looks like thousands of middle aged men you see every day in New York City. He doesn't look familiar. He asked for Dr. Shinbach, one of Dr. Faughey's suite mates. I don't know him - I wish I did so I could send police to take him off the street. I have sat in that office many many times. I know it well. It was neat, placid and friendly. Dr. Faughey even had a rocking chair for patients that wanted to sit in one. I feel sick just looking at the news footage of the building where I spent so much time with someone who helped me so greatly and even inspired me to try to help others.

I can't believe I won't be able to just pick up the phone and ask her advice anymore. My deepest condolences and prayers go out to her husband and family.

I will try to get back to blogging when I can. It was Dr. Faughey who encouraged me to write, encouraged me to get a blog and even told me about a couple of the site aggregators I am on now. The last thing I wrote I sent to her and her email response to me was: "Barbara, this is wonderful. Continue, continue, continue!" (She would have told me if it was bad, believe me. ) There have been tough times in the last 15 years when, without her support and common sense - I don't think I would have made it through. She was, in a professional sense, my friend. She didn't deserve this.

It's funny that for such a private person, she's now front page news and blogging news. She had started helping those who internet addiction and involved in online relationships a few years ago, pioneering that sort of treatment. She'd written a couple articles about it.

To say she will be missed is a gross understatement. Right now, I need to process this loss and lend support to this tragedy where I can. Thank you to all my friends who are being so supportive to me.
