KEVIN SPACEY TO COME TO BROADWAY

Despite having a nice, somewhat lucrative acting career (mostly commercials & voice overs) for a number of years - since my disability 11 years ago I have pretty much avoided Broadway - too depressing. Selfish I know...

However, for KEVIN SPACEY I will overcome that. This guy's an actor's actor and a chance to see him on Broadway!! whoo hoo!! Since The Usual Suspects and American Beauty this guys been on Numero Uno on my talent list.

The Brooks Atkinson Theatre, which recently housed the Twyla Tharp-Bob Dylan musical The Times They Are A-Changin', has found its new tenant: the acclaimed London production of A Moon for the Misbegotten starring Kevin Spacey.

The Associated Press reports that the production, which began life at London's Old Vic Theatre, will feature the two-time Academy Award winner as well as his London co-stars Eve Best and Colm Meaney. Previews will begin at the Brooks Atkinson March 29, 2007, with an official opening April 9.

Howard Davies, who directed the London production at the Old Vic — where Spacey is artistic director — will repeat his duties for the Broadway production. Spacey will again play James Tyrone Jr. in the play, which will mark this third O'Neill on Broadway. The actor was previously seen in Long Day's Journey Into Night and The Iceman Cometh.

The London production of Moon will end its run at the Old Vic Dec. 23.

A Moon for the Misbegotten is O’Neill's comic drama about “love, heartbreak, guilt and redemption. . . . Three unforgettable characters do battle with the deepest yearnings of the human heart over the course of a single whiskey-soaked moonlit night.” The play premiered on Broadway in 1957 and was most recently seen in 2000 with a cast led by Cherry Jones, Roy Dotrice and Gabriel Byrne.

Kevin Spacey won a Tony Award for his performance in Neil Simon's Lost in Yonkers and was Tony-nominated for his work in The Iceman Cometh. His other Broadway credits include Long Day's Journey Into Night, Hurlyburly and Ghosts. A two-time Oscar winner for his performances in "American Beauty" and "The Usual Suspects," Spacey is currently the artistic director of London's Old Vic Theatre.

We saw the play in previews. He is truly amazing, as is his co-star, Eve Best. I even scored an autograph and a "thank you" after the show! He's exactly the way I had pictured him. As my husband says, I didn't need the airplane to fly home!
