SNAP OUT OF IT!
Often I have said that being an emotional, psychological and sexual abuse victim and now an anti-abuse advocate has forever colored my thinking. I know it - and unfortunately what I read in the newspapers and blogs just confirms my thinking.
I look at the U.S. and Israel as abused women. There are people in both countries (particularly the latter) screaming to be heard. Screaming that their attackers are near, there is no negotiating with these terrorists who want the annihilation of Israel. And yet, many still are complicite with the abuser/attacker/terrorist. "give them a chance", "no really - they've changed", "they want peace."
No, they don't.
Once again - the blind are going to lead us towards disaster by listening to rhetoric instead of the ACTIONS of everyone involved.

MYTH: Victims exaggerate the level of abuse. If it was really that bad, they would leave.
FACT: Most victims actually minimize the abuse because of self-blame, guilt or shame. Victims considering leaving their abusers are faced with the very real possibility of continued threats and harassment, severe physical injury and even death. Domestic violence is the only crime in which the victim, in order to escape the dangers, has to leave home, friends, family, economic security, pets, belongings and sometimes the city behind for a safer, more peaceful life.
