HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

It's hard for me because in the small rural town I grew up in, I was the town pariah. I remember going out one Halloween and coming home with huge bruises and goose eggs - one over my eye, one on the back of my head and my costume covered with eggs. I was the town bully target at the time. I rarely left the house and spent a lot of time in my room, just like I do now.
This morning, when I walked my kids to the school bus, overhead were 3 traffic copters. Probably reporting on the nearby Grand Central Parkway, LaGuardia Airport situation. One of the kids was fascinated, she said the copter noise made her feel safe. I am glad to know she doesn't remember 9/11 that well. I was hoping it didn't mean something bad had happened on the GCP or bode badly for the day.
Along the way of candy-gathering, I was waiting for my kids to trick or treat one home and I heard a teenage boy tell his friend... "take this pipe, man and just go break the window and run." I stopped and said, "you guys aren't seriously thinking of damaging someone's property are you?" They took off pretty fast. I guess it was my lack of a mask. When I was younger, as soon as the town bullies and vicious cliques found out where I lived they would soap and egg our home and sometimes leave bags of burning leaves or nasty notes on the home. They didn't like that my Nana, of blessed memory, spoke Polish as well as she spoke English. And they didn't like me, for reasons I will never understand to this day. (FYI - there are still no Jews living that town. Wonder why.)

Halloween was also the night I first became engaged when I was almost 18. Yes, I realize now that was too young but I was really in love with the guy. I should have seen that a Halloween engagement was bad foreshadowing.
My own triggers about Halloween were faced. I wanted my children to have a good time. All went well. It was a crisp, Fall evening - my favorite time of year. And now I am off to get into my warm bed and leave the goblins for another year.
Hope yours was safe & fun!
